InsideLife / Guide / Earning money
Earning money
You start with ₦5,000. Here is how to turn it into rent money, then a car, then a business.
Where your money goes
Every payment lands in your wallet: your balance at the top right updates, and the Bank app lists it. End a shift and you see what you earned.
Danfo conductor
No car needed. You ride the danfo and collect the fares.
- Open Jobs and tap Start next to Danfo conductor.
- Find a danfo (or a coaster bus) and tap Ride. You stand at the door, as a conductor does.
- When the danfo stops at a bus stop, you call the route and passengers come aboard.
- Tap Collect fare (C) for each one.
Pay: ₦100 for the stop plus ₦30 for every fare you collect, up to 6 fares a stop. Busy hours bring more passengers. You call each stop once: the danfo has to move on to the next.
Delivery rider
Pick parcels up at shops and deliver them to real addresses across your district.
- Open Jobs and tap Start next to Delivery rider.
- Get moving. Any way works, but an okada is fastest: tap Drive next to one that has stopped, or buy your own in the Cars app.
- The map leads you to the shop. The parcel is yours when you arrive.
- The map then leads you to the customer's address. Arrive to deliver, and the next job comes.
Pay: ₦250 for each delivery plus ₦0.25 for every metre, so about ₦325 to ₦625. Deliver quickly for a 30% tip. Arrive too late and the customer cancels: no pay, and your reputation drops.
Reputation
Each job has its own reputation, from 0 to 100, starting at 50. Good work raises it, and it raises your pay: up to a quarter more at 100, a quarter less at 0. The Jobs app shows it.
Your own kiosk
Once you have ₦10,000 or more, open a kiosk in the Business app.
- Stand near a free spot on a busy street and open it. The first week's rent is ₦10,000.
- Buy stock at ₦120 a unit. Each unit sells for ₦200.
- Customers buy from 7 am to 9 pm while the rent is paid. Busy streets sell more. A kiosk with a player minding it sells more than an empty one.
- Sales go into the till. Tap Take takings to move them to your wallet.
- Other players can buy a snack at your kiosk, and that money goes into your till too.
You can also work at another player's kiosk for a daily wage: accept their offer in the Business app.
Other ways money comes in
- Another player sends you money from their Bank app.
- You sell a car or money to a player in the Trade app.
- You move out of a home and your caution fee comes back.
What things cost
Every day
| Without a home | With a home | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost of living | ₦800 | ₦500 |
| Phone data | ₦300 | ₦300 |
| NEPA (electricity) | none | ₦500 |
A day you cannot pay is skipped, but you lose energy.
Food
A meal at a mama-put stall is ₦1,500 (stand near the stall and tap Buy food). Cooking at home is ₦300.
Rent
You pay rent monthly. When you move in you also pay an agent fee and a caution fee, each a tenth of a year's rent; the caution comes back when you leave. A room starts at about ₦20,833 a month, around ₦70,833 to move in. Flats and duplexes cost more, most of all in Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Lekki.
Fuel and cars
Petrol is about ₦1,000 a litre and diesel ₦1,150, a little more in Victoria Island and Lekki, and each station sets its own price. Cars start at ₦100,000 for an old okada that does not always start; a used okada is ₦850,000 and a tokunbo saloon ₦9,000,000.
A first plan: work as a conductor or rider until you have ₦10,000 to ₦20,000, open a kiosk to earn while you work, then save for a room of your own, then your first okada.
